Footer Tag
Though not as effective compared to the Header tag, the Footer tag can be used to store a few information which can also be used for SEO.

How will it work?
Because of the Section tag, Footer tags and Header tags can be used in multiple sections found in one web page.

Nav Tag
Although nothing major will change with the tag, this new tag can be used to explicitly identify a collection of navigation links for other pages.

Disadvantage of HTML 5 in SEO
One disadvantage of HTML 5 in SEO is that it removed the use of Alt Tags (alt = “”). In HTML 4, Alt Tags were heavily used by SEO experts. This, however, was removed in HTML 5, which may be due to its abuse in Black Hat SEO.

Effectiveness of page segmentation with SEO
If you’ll notice, these new tags are used to segment a page from different elements, from headers, footers, content/article, and navigation.

According to many speculations, search engines have become smarter compared in the past. Many experts believe that search engines have been employing page segmentation in indexing a page, meaning search engines have now the technology to separate one element from other elements found in the same page, such as headers and article. And each of these elements are treated as separate entries.

Although there are no technology at present which can manipulate search engine spiders to only index a particular section or segment, the solution is expected to come in HTML 5.
